FAN ART FRIDAY: “Fun is Sin, Kids” by ScepterDPinoy

Artists typically resort to pixels for one of two reasons:

  1. They relish the challenge of crafting legible art using a limited palette and resolution.
  2. They suck at conventional art and want something as quick, low-maintenance, and re-usable as possible.

Not saying our work has escaped the latter, but seems the resurgence of self-styled ‘retro’ games has lowered the bar for the medium somewhat. Thankfully, ScepterDPinoy proves again that minimalism does equal with pixel art with a detailed tribute to both Tower of Heaven and a real Game Boy classic: The King James Bible on Game Boy.

For such a simple and easily missed joke (don’t miss that tiny text at the top left there), Mark goes to great lengths establishing a sense of scale, both on the ground and in the heavens. Even each of the bricks on the tower are distinct; in the end, although these details might go unmissed at a glance, it’s good to know that people still care enough to approach the medium with the same effort and detail as any other.
